Spit Dog sale fetches £5,000

Puppet Spit the Dog, made famous on children's TV show Tiswas, has fetched £5,378 at auction.
The furry puppet was originally expected to go for up to £1,500 but a bidding war at Christie's in London pushed the price ever higher.

Spit was the sidekick of entertainer Bob Carolgees, who has a newer version of the toy dog to use in his act.

Carolgees said: "Whoever is spending that amount of money on him must be offering him a good home."

As well as appearing on Tiswas, Carolgees and Spit also featured on Cilla Black's Surprise, Surprise as well as entertaining the armed forces.

Carolgees said he was selling the puppet to promote his website which sells customised candles.

He said: "I don't feel sad about letting him go at all. I don't see Spit in the same way other people see him.
