I think in fred and rose, each one on their own may have been a little sadistic, but when their minds met it was like a rocket going off, and the outcome is as we all know. The book also says that with each further killing, the torture ect escalated , and the more sadistic the pair of them became, then they both feared each other, in so much that each of them, had to think of something more horrific than the other, so the other one would actually be afraid that they may be killed by that person if they decided to betray them in any way.
I hope you understand that, its a bit difficult to put down what I mean.
As for myra I personally find it more shocking that  it was a woman, who tortured and killed, and although huntleys partner never killed , the fact that she covered up the killings is in my mind no different to huntley.
Maybe it is because I am a woman and cannot conceive that any woman would purposefully hurt a child, I dont know do men feel differently if it is a woman.
Again when i read about hindley it was the same thing as the wests, the writers said that on their own they may never have been a problem but when both met thats when the real sadistic feelings came out.
we have so much to learn and such a short time to learn it in
