Riddle

3 men go into a motel.

The man behind the desk said the room is $30
   
So each man paid $10 and went to the room.
   
A while later the man behind the desk realized the room was only $25    so he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys' room with $5.
 
On the way the bellboy couldn't figure out how to split $5 evenly between 3 men, so he gave each man a $1 and kept the other $2 for himself.
   
This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which is a total of  $27, add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29.
   
Where is the other dollar?

When the men paid $30 total for the room, it would have been $10 each, but as the room was only $25, their share would have been $8.33 for two of them and $8.34 for one of them ($8.33 + $8.33 + $8.34 = $25) so the $5 should have divided as follows, $1.67 for the two men who paid $8.33 and $1.66 for the man who had paid $8.34 ($1.67 + $1.67 + $1.66 = $5)  :icon_thumright:

I don’t think I explained my last Post very well, so I will try again


There was no extra dollar, because when the 3 men paid the original $30 that would have meant that they each paid $10.  When the room was discounted to $25, that would have meant that each man should have paid only $8.33 (except for one who paid $8.34) =$25.

When the Bellboy refunded them $1 each that would have brought the total amount to $28.  The Bellboy pocketed the other $2
