Fuel duty increase?

On Wednesday the Chancellor will deliver the 2008 Budget – and with it a whole host of extra taxes on motorists. You can read about the plans, and the arguments for scrapping the majority of them, here on my blog:

If the planned 2p rise in fuel duty goes ahead, it will generate an extra £1 billion for the government, but the Chancellor has been under pressure from motorists and the haulage industry to abandon it. Reports suggest he is undecided at the moment, and could still be swayed. If you think he should scrap the 2p increase, make your views known on the blog.

Your 106.6p per litre equates to $2.31 Australian.  As we're paying in the region of $1 40 per litre I suppose we're not doing too badly, but you have to take into consideration that Australia is a very big country so the distance that the majority of people travel by car, would be far greater.  There is some talk that the petrol will rise to $1.50 over Easter (well who would have believed it?).

As I don't drive a great deal, a tank of petrol lasts me several weeks.

In his first Budget he put 4p on a pint of beer, 14p on a bottle of wine and 55p on a bottle of spirits. Duty on a packet of cigarettes is up 11p.

Petrol (gas) here is now up to $3.50 a gallon and is heading towards $4.00.  That's approx 8 quid a gallon.  Since we drive everywhere in L.A., it really impacts us.

If you only pay $3.50 a gallon, that works out about 77c per litre, is that right?  Our petrol at the pumps today was $1.46 per litre.

Just been to a garage here in town, my diesel  1.11 for a litre.

Filled up the other day worked out at 48.2 pence per litre..

Oh better tell you that there arent many vehicles that will run on MFO (marine fuel oil) and to get that price you need to fill up with around 18 tonne = 20,000 + - litres

now that would be a BIG tank in the boot of your car

Of course that depends on if its a US gallon or an imperial one.   1 US gallon = 0.833 imperial

There are 4.55 litres in an imperial gallon but only 3.79 litres in a US gallon

Here in NS we are paying $1.17 a litre (1.17 Canadian $ = 0.58672 British Pound) (1.17 Canadian $ = 1.18162 US $)  (1.17 Canadian Dollar = 1.26953 Australian Dollar)

(1.17 X 4.55 = 5.32355) :- 5.3235 Canadian   $ = 2.66957 British Pound or (5.3235 Canadian $ = 5.37635 US $)  or
(5.3235 Canadian Dollar = 5.77636 Australian Dollar)  Per Gallon Imperial

(1.17 X 3.79 = 4.4343) :- 4.4343 Canadian $  = 4.47832 US $ or (4.4343 Canadian $ = 2.22366 British Pound)  or (4.4343 Canadian Dollar = 4.81152 Australian Dollar) Per Gallon US.

The cost of PP’s fuel at $3.50 per gallon would equate to

US Gallon = 92.35 cents per Litre

Imperial Gallon = 77 cents per Litre

Even basing it on the US Gallon, the price is relatively a great deal cheaper than both the UK and Australian price of fuel

As PP would be buying her fuel at the US$ price the cost would be 0.45P per Litre

And the Australian price would be A$0.98c per Litre

And the Canadian price would even cheaper at C$0.91c per Litre

I have been talking with my ship mates about the fuel costs etc and I'm cheesed off with them!

what with the hype and rubbish strewn around by the media they have labled my car as a "MUM TRUCK KIDDY CARRIER" "Chelsea Tractor" "Gas Guzzler"

ITS NOT!!!!!!!!

Yes it can go into 4 wheel drive yes it is a high body type with a rear door, that's where it ends
It HAS the lowest rated emissions in its class has the safest rating in its class, drives on the front wheels all the time unless the transmission detects a need for the rear wheel assistance HAS a shorter wheel base than a FORD MONDEO has an engine size of 1994 cc (2000) according to insurance companies So where is the resemblance to a GAS GUZZLING MUM TRUCK ?
